Jesus is our GOOD NEWS!

All of us who make up Westport Baptist Church desire nothing less for you to be able to spend eternity with God with us! Through faith in Jesus Christ, this is guaranteed. Below you will find a list of facts you need to know before becoming a Christian –

*We’ve all sinned by breaking God’s Law – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

*The GOOD NEWS for YOU is found in the Gospel of Jesus – For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” – 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

*God did this because He genuinely loves you – “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. – Romans 5:8

*We can only be saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus, which means that we cannot be saved in any way, shape, or form by the “good works” that we do – For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9

*God loves YOU and it is His desire that you will be saved by trusting upon Jesus – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

*The penalty for our sin is death, but the gift of eternal life is FREE because of what Christ did for YOU! “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23 –

“all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” – Romans 3:24

DiscipleshipTherefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

After becoming a child of God by trusting upon Jesus Christ alone, you need to be baptized as an act of obedience to Jesus. After this, you need to grow in Christ as His disciple (student). The ultimate goal in the discipleship of the believer, is to have an abundant life (John 10:10), which is a life filled with the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). While the Holy Spirit provides the power to mature (Galatians 5:16, 2 Peter 1:3-4), the believer has a responsibility as well, to pursue godliness with the help of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16). This process is aided by consistent prayer (Ephesians 6:18), Bible study (Psalm 119:105), and fellowship with other believers (Hebrews 10:24-25).

If you have any questions concerning your salvation, discipleship, or anything else, please feel free to contact our pastor! He would love to speak with you! We invite you with open arms to become a part of our church family. None of us are perfect, and we all still have problems in life. Yet, even in the midst of all the trials and tribulations that come our way, we are here for each other, we love each other, and even better, we are loved and kept by a PERFECT SAVIOR!

Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.
Romans 15:7
